Driver's Safety Course

Taking a Driver's Safety Course (commonly referred to as Defensive Driving or DSC) is one way to keep a citation from being a conviction on your driving record.

Upon the timely completion of an approved driver’s safety course and the return of the Certificate of Completion and a current copy of your driving record to the court, the state defers your citation.

To be eligible to request Driver's Safety Course:

    1. You must not have taken a Driver's Safety Course for a ticket dismissal within the 12 months preceding the date of your citation. You must submit a sworn Driver's Safety Course Affidavit and request to take the Driver's Safety Course on or before your scheduled court date.
    2. You must have a current, valid driver's license and be able to present of copy of it to the court.
    3. You must have a current automobile insurance policy in your name and you must be able to present of copy of it to the court.
    4. You must be able to pay the court costs of $134 plus a $10 dismissal fee in full ($144 total) at the time the Judge approves your request.
